Margaret M. Geist

Margaret slipped in the basement of her home in the latter part of 2005. She was placed in Welcome Nursing Home in Oberlin, OH for rehabilitation. Besides the broken wrist, she was suffering from the early stages of dementia.

She had no desire to be in the nursing home, and she made it very clear. As in most nusrsing homes, they are not staffed to deal with patients who step out of line, or make any noise. She was then drugged into submission to the point where she was a vegatable. (How they get away with this is beyond my comprehension.)

My wife, Sandy, couldn't handle seeing her mother treated in this manner, so we decided to bring her to our house in Fenton, MI. Margaret arrived in November of 2005. A week later, after having received no antiphycotic drugs, life returned to her eyes. She lived her remaining 3 1/2 years in peace, and was provided the best of care.(Medical):Margaret had a thyroid problem which was controlled through medication. She also had a minor elevated blood pressure, also controlled with medications. She also had a mild case of adult-onset diabetes, controlled with medication.
