The 1790 Washington County RI Federal Census shows Isaac Spink home having 1 male above 16 years, 3 males of 16 years or below two females and no slaves. At this time, it is fairly certain that there was only one Isaac Spink in Washington County at that time.
According to the Providence Journal:
The farm's history dates back to 1790, when Isaac Spink -- who fought in the Revolutionary War -- built a farmhouse on land where he raised dairy cows, fruit and corn. A Providence Journal story in the 1990s called Spink's great-grandson Sanford C. Spink Jr. a "local treasure" who joked to neighbors that he retired too early, while spending eight hours a day hand-clipping weeds to keep the walls clear.
Sanford Spink -- who had no children -- died at the age of 86 in 1993, leaving his 55-acre farm to his second cousin, Deborah Gilbert. Gilbert -- a senior citizen herself -- who turned around and sold the land in 1998 to developer Robert C. Lamoureux of Centerville Builders.
Lamoureux's plan was to build a dozen houses in the rear, wooded section of the farm, preserving the stonework and the rolling fields, and selling the Spink family farmhouse to a private home buyer. The town's planning commission waived its usual rule that subdivisions have sidewalks, suggesting instead that simple gravel footpaths would be more discreet and fit more easily into the tableau. Although the farm itself is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, development of the land behind met town requirements.
