It was initially believed that Alexander may have been a twin, although we knew nothing about the other child, or if there may have been other children. As it turned out, not only was he NOT a twin, he was the youngest of 7 other children. Only one of the family was a girl, indicating that we still have a many Marr relatives around.
He was machine repairman, which was called a "tenter" or a "loomfixer" as shown on the Record of Death. As such, he was hired by JP Coats to help open a new plant in the states. It was in 1923 that he went to Rhode Island to work on the new, Central Falls facility. He landed in Nova Scotia from Glasgow.
He immagrated to the United States, leaving Glasgow, Scotland on the ship Cameronia on 11 May 1923 and arrived in Halifax Nova Scotia on 19 May 1923, bound for Boston - verified by ship's log.
It wasn't until 1925 that he had earned enough money to bring is wife, Agnes Jane Main, and two sons, Robert Brown and George Harvey Ferguson to the states. They arrived in Boston on the ship Transylvania on, or about 19 September, 1925.
Fifteen years after his arrival in the United States, Alexander became a U.S. citizen on 27 June, 1938. Four months later he died.(Research):Some information regarding the Marr family in Scotland was found through The First Scottish Searching Services, located at http://www.fsss.co.uk/.(Medical):Disease of the kidneys, likely caused by Malaria contracted during WW I
